South Florida has sunshine and warm weather almost all year long. It’s difficult to tell when the seasons change in our area of the world. March generally marks that Spring is on its way and it’s time to get prepared. The rest of the country might be dusting the snow off their car, but we are already experiencing warm temperatures that allow us to swim in our pools and start our gardening routine. The following tips will help you get prepared and possibly save some money too.

  • Check for leaks – Inspect your faucets, showerheads, and pipes under the sinks. Do your faucets or showerheads drip? Do you see water under your sink? Do you smell a bad odor under the sink? If you answered yes to any of these questions you have a water leak. It’s essential that you get it repaired immediately to avoid any further issues. Remember a small water leak can get bigger quickly causing costly damage to your home.
  • Check the toilets – Do you hear your toilet constantly running? You might think it’s no big deal as long as it’s not overflowing but you actually have a water leak. This type of water leak can cause your water bill to skyrocket. You can easily test your toilet to confirm there is a leak. Place a few drops of food coloring into the tank and wait up to 30 minutes. Do not use the toilet during this time. Then, check to see if you notice the food coloring in the toilet bowl area. If you see color in the bowl, you definitely have a leak that needs to be fixed.
  • Install drain strainers – Drain strainers are affordable little devices that cover the drain. They catch hair and other types of things that clog your pipes. They are easy to install and empty. These small little save you lots of money.
  • Prepare your pool – South Florida residents who have pools at their homes often have outdoor showers for convenience. These outdoor showers need to be taken care of by a professional. They can leak and cause mold and bacteria to build up. Also, the pool itself needs to have superior plumbing in order to work properly and provide clean water for swimming.

Spring is just around the corner! Make sure you are prepared by doing the tips listed above. These helpful money-saving tips will help keep you stay on budget. If you are having issues with the plumbing in your home, contact us today for further assistance.
