Money Saving Water Conservation Tips for Floridians

Floridians now understand the importance of water conservation. Similarly, California has made some big changes the Sunshine State can learn from. Both states suffer from droughts. Current maximum flow rates for urinals, residential and kitchen faucets, capping out at a usage of 2.2 gallons per minute (GPM), potentially saving nearly 100 billion gallons per year.

Shower Flow-Regulator

If you are not ready to change your current showerhead, consider a shower flow regulator. That allows you to receive the benefits of lower water consumption without a complete upgrade of your shower’s fixtures. A shower flow-regulator lets you slow water to a trickle while lathering up or shampooing while taking a shower.

Dual Flush Toilets

While the name implies more water will be used, the dual flush toilet offers two different flushes, a half, full or a flush that you can customize. This will help you from flushing more water than needed.

Florida Leads in Water Efficiency

There is no current legislation regarding plumbing fixtures in the State of Florida, but the Sunshine State does lead the South in water efficiency. Plumbing professionals believe that the use of water-efficient plumbing technologies have contributed to the increased efficiency. In addition to plumbing fixture upgrades, Floridians can practice these simple conservation tips at home:

  • Lather up hands in soap before turning on the water.
  • Turn off the water while brushing their teeth.
  • Take shorter showers.
